Give us a snap shot of your career to date

I have been in the events industry for 8 years starting off with my own event management company I used to run on the side. As much as I loved planning events I have always had a background in sales and naturally moved into event sales within the Business Events Team at Sydney Olympic Park (SOP). After 4 years at SOP, I moved over to The Star Sydney where I have been for the past 10 months. I also sit on the NSW MEA Branch and Chair the Networking Sub-Committee. I love giving back to my industry.

The most memorable event you have worked on and why?

Being part of the winning bid team to host the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney, specifically in Sydney Olympic Park. It was a great experience working with the Department of Premier Cabinet’s and collaborating with other venues across Sydney to ensure we could deliver the most accessible and successful Invictus Games, for both athletes, family and friends. The legacy this event will leave for Sydney will be nothing short of extraordinary. I’m also not going to complain about meeting his Royal Highness, Prince Harry.

What did you ‘learn the hard way’ when planning an event?

When I first started I always wanted to do everything myself and I didn’t always know best. I quickly learnt that you can’t and that you should accept help when offered… or even just ask for it. There is so much knowledge and experience in this industry with colleagues and friends willing to help and share their experiences. Take it all in!
