Maleficent Inspired Wedding
Many of us have fictional characters we admire or want to emulate. In this case, it’s Maleficent! The unique theme is transformed into a beautiful setting and ceremony inspiration.

What to Look for in a Venue for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
A Maleficent inspired wedding should be outdoors. Since Maleficent, even in the Disney original animated version and the new remake with Angelina Jolie, was primarily shot outdoors, the ideal wedding venue should be among trees and dense forest. The entire Maleficent theme is gothic, and the added beauty of shaded trees to declare your vows will work in your favour.
While being Disney inspired, wedding venues should have enough room for your artistic designs for the nuptials. Since the theme is quite specific, you may have to spend extra time and attention on the décor for the ceremony and reception. You will also need to speak to the venue management about accommodation and transport options for guests if the wedding is at a lakeside locale or in a wooded resort.
Colour Palettes for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
When it comes to Disney inspired Maleficent weddings, the wedding colour palettes should be bold, vivid, vivacious, yet elegant and classy. While Maleficent, as a Disney character, is portrayed in purple, amethyst, and black, you could also add a touch of mystery with gold detailing, dark forest green, and hints of silver.
When it comes to the colour palette, you must remember that the overall theme should swerve towards a gothic and elegant look. Adding burgundy to the Maleficent theme (the colour of deep red wine) will also bring the overall look together. If you want to offset the dark colours, try adding lavender, blush pink, and off-white.
Details for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
There are several ways you could incorporate the Maleficent theme into the wedding. Apart from the wedding colours, you could hand out dark velvet purple cloaks to wedding guests as they pay homage to you, their Queen! You could also consider the chairs for the wedding and have them draped in deep purple and black covers.
While all these details will add mystery to the wedding, you would also need to be careful about restraining some of your Maleficent inspiration to not go overboard with the theme. Having lavender and burgundy coloured blooms for a floral arch, a wedding bouquet of purple, white, green, and pale yellow flowers, and a gothic centrepiece with reclaimed wood will help bring the Maleficent theme together.
Table Setting Style for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
The table setting style for a Maleficent inspired wedding should be awe-inspiring. You can have several natural elements of the table like wooden branches, entwined vines, purple flowers blooming from them, verdant green below the branch, and a mix of different plants to make it look forest-driven.
A vintage copper-gold rumpled tablecloth with white and purple porcelain, silver or gold goblets for wine, and black or dark brown candelabras with olive green candles on the table will be a feast for the eyes. You can also have a row of white, off-white, blush, and burgundy roses running straight across the table for a more magical vibe.
Budget for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
When it comes to the wedding budget, most couples try and stick to it. If you have chosen a theme (like the Maleficent inspiration), you can easily control and curb your expenses. The reason for this is that your choices are limited. Usually, weddings call for pastels, pinks, and lighter shades. However, if your theme is with darker wedding colours, you are limited in your options to make choices.
Once you purchase all the decorative items for the wedding, concentrate on expenses like the venue, accommodation, travel, caterers, wedding cake, alcohol, photographer, lighting, and entertainment. Allocation of finances becomes easier when you know the complete guest list.
Wedding Dresses and Accessories for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
Having a Maleficent inspired wedding does not mean you must opt for darker wedding dresses. However, if you are interested, Vera Wang came out with a black bridal gown collection a while ago! You could opt for a white or cream wedding gown in classic Disney style or a flowy dress that is light and airy.
A classic wedding dress would also fit with the Maleficent theme and ensure that you are in sync with the décor. For accessories, selecting amethyst jewellry – a pair of dangling earrings and a statement necklace in diamonds and precious purple stones would also fit with the wedding colours. For the hair, a Maleficent inspired updo (a la horns) with a double bun would also look nice inset with a black crown.
Wedding Invitations for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
The wedding invitations should be in your chosen wedding colours. The invitations can be on a black or deep purple background with a gold cursive font. Think of the celebration invitation that the King sent out for Princess Aurora's birth, but in darker colours.
Since the invitations would be the first thing your wedding guests see, you must ensure that they all understand the wedding theme. If you plan to opt for a paperless invite and instead choose digital evites, you have a wider range of options for the colours, with the sinister green, black, and purple with a burgundy pattern. Making the wedding invitation classy yet enchanting should be the aim.
Wedding Cake Ideas for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
The wedding cake can also be as Maleficent inspired as you want. A white cake with icing in the shape of raven's feathers or a forest-inspired cake with roses in burgundy, forest green, and purple would also look magnificent. If you want the cake to be highly authentic, you could opt for a spinning wheel with a pointed spindle as your cake topper.
Other fabulous ideas for a wedding cake are a multi-tiered white cake with gold leaf latticework on the base, cream-coloured leaf and roses patterns on the sides in icing, and black edible feather patterns on the side. To set the tone for the entire theme, you could also add riotous blooms in sugarwork towards the base of the cake to make it look like a forest floor.
Favours and Gifts for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
Wedding favours are essential to thank your guests for showering you with their love and blessings. Some Maleficent inspired wedding gifts would be a mini cupcake box with purple, burgundy, green, and white icing, a pair of coffee mugs in purple with your names and wedding date inscribed, lavender scented candles in black votives, and purple bath bombs and salts.
Other favours can be a black tote bag with a burlap packet of seedlings, a pack of playing cards from Disney's store for Maleficent, and a bottle of red wine with a personalised inscription accompanied by a well-written thank-you note. If children are attending, you could give them Disney Maleficent colouring books and a packet of toxic-free crayons.
Wedding Photo Shoot Ideas for a Maleficent Inspired Wedding
Maleficent inspired photo shoots can be highly creative and fun. The couple can strike romantic poses under a large tree or a nearby glade reminiscent of Princess Aurora meeting Prince Philip. You could also have one of the groomsmen dressed in all black to represent the raven, Diaval, who always watches over Princess Aurora.
A floral shoulder piece that looks like a cape or a crown of pointed flowers and vines (to depict Maleficent) would also look authentic yet unique for single portrait shots. Having a cape for the bride and one for the groom will look authentic yet regal for the photo shoot.
Disney’s Maleficent-Inspired Wedding
I don’t know about you but I’m super excited to see Disney’s new live action feature Maleficent! Today’s wedding inspiration shoot from Palette of Petals and Bit of Ivory Photography takes this eerily beautiful story and transforms it into a hauntingly gorgeous wedding. Weird has never looked so good!

From Chelsea at Bit of Ivory Photography – “Inspired by Disney’s upcoming live action Maleficent movie, Mary and Shannon of Palette of Petals in Virginia Beach, Virginia conceptualized and created a gorgeously haunting scene with its leading lady. With a dragon sculpted and wired out of driftwood as the piece de resistance and an ebony Silkie chicken as her raven-like companion, they imagined a raw and natural wedding scene paired with shadowy environs. While the film has yet to reveal its true storyline, it hints at a similar one like Elphaba of Wicked fame: when good turns ‘evil.’ And so, ‘visions are seldom all they seem’ set the course.
