We absolutely love this photo shoot that provides inspiration for many colours, including your favourite! If you’re a bride who adores hues and what can be so creatively done with them, this is for you.
The great thing about choosing a favourite colour as a basis for your wedding theme is that your venue choice is versatile. From the wonderful nuptials to the glorious party afterward, so much fun can go into the planning.
What comes to mind for us? Edinburgh wedding reception venues suit any colour you may have in mind. And no matter the vibe you want to create, from classic to whimsy, Edinburgh has that, too. Wherever you decide to get married, take your most-loved colour and run with it!
Colour Palettes for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
Well, when you have an Incredible and Colourful Wedding as your wedding inspiration, when it comes to choosing your colour palette, the world really is your oyster. Now, this is slightly different from a multicolour wedding as with this Incredible and Colourful Wedding, you’ll be picking one main colour and leading with that.
For example, if you’re leading with yellow, fully invest in that colour and utilise loads of different shades to give your colour palette depth and points of interest. Or alternatively, lead with a particular colourful print and pull shades from that design to form the base of your wedding colour palette.
Food for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
Depending on the colour that you’ve chosen for your Incredible and Colourful Wedding, there are a lot of options for vibrant, bright and delicious wedding food – obviously with the exception of maybe blue (it’s a notoriously hard colour to find naturally occurring in food).
A great place to start is with fresh fruit and veggies. These often have powerful colours that help bring your colour-based scheme to life on the plate. Also, consider the formality level of your wedding. If it’s a more casual and relaxed day, maybe go for family style serving or a barbecue, if it’s more formal then consider a farm to table style sit down tasting menu.
Table Setting Style for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
When it comes to your table setting style for your Incredible and Colourful Wedding you don’t want to go overboard with too much block colour. Instead, utilise different shades of your chosen colour to give a little bit of light and shade, and prevent it from being an assault on the senses!
Another thing that you can do is use different textures to help break up the brightness of the colour – think about using hessian, linen together with shiny silverware, and light catching glassware. If you’re looking for points of difference, check out local thrift stores for vintage mix and match crockery.
Budget for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
As with any wedding following any kind of theme, there are ways to save budget when planning an Incredible and Colourful Wedding and there are ways to absolutely blow the budget out of the water. It all depends on you and your new spouse's situation and vision for your big day.
It’s a general rule of thumb that the more formal the wedding is the larger the guest list becomes, and as a result, it becomes more and more expensive. If you’re having a relaxed Incredible and Colourful Wedding then chances are you’re going to have a more intimate wedding that is going to have fewer guests that you’re going to have to pay for.
Wedding Dresses & Accessories for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
You may have assumed this already but with an Incredible and Colourful Wedding, your wedding dress might not necessarily follow the traditional white or ivory gown. Increasingly, there are more and more colourful wedding gowns that you can choose from, just remember if you’re going with a dress that’s the same colour as the rest of the scheme, you pick a shade that will stand out against the backdrop.
Alternatively, you can go with a classic white or ivory dress and bring a pop of colour with a bright veil, shoes or accessories to still keep that bridal feel while nodding to your colourful wedding theme.
Bridesmaid Dresses for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
Now, if you’re opting for a brightly coloured wedding dress, it can be tricky to try and pick a look for your bridesmaid that’s different enough from your own look but still remains on theme. There are a few options here, firstly if you’re in the brighter version of the hue, dress them in the lighter shade or vice versa. This way they’ll look different enough but it’ll still be a cohesive overall look.
You can also perhaps get your bridesmaid in tea length, white sundresses to bring some lightness to your colour scheme and then you can tie it into your colour of choice with some cool accessories like statement necklaces and shoes.
Menswear for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
With such an eclectic outfit choice for your bridal and bridesmaids look, you don’t really want to stick with the traditional black and white tuxedo for the men in your groom's party. It just may stick out like a sore thumb if you do.
Instead, pick a lighter shade from your colour scheme for a jacket and pair it with a crispy white shirt and neutral pants. It’ll still look formal and stylish while also aligning nicely with your Incredible and Colourful Wedding theme. If you’re choosing a pattern, you can tie this in through pocket squares and tie elements to make the look cohesive.
Bouquets & Boutonnieres for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
Nothing says colour like a beautiful bouquet or floral arrangement, especially at a wedding! This being said, although you’re focusing on one hero colour for your Incredible and Colourful Wedding, remember to include some other shades in your bouquets to help them look more natural and stop your wedding scheme from looking one note – something we definitely don’t want to happen!
Think about incorporating plenty of green foliage to give your floral arrangements some depth. It’ll also help your chosen colour pop and stand out a lot more in your gorgeous wedding photos, which is always a really good thing!
Wedding Invitations for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
Although your wedding invitations are one of the first things on your wedding to-do list, they are something that is often rushed or overlooked in favour of more big ticket items like the dress or cake. However, the invites are an important first look at your theme, the formality level and the overall vibe that you’re looking to create with your Incredible and Colourful Wedding.
You definitely want to hint at the hue that you’re using for the foundation of your wedding theme, perhaps by using a pastel version of the colour as the base of the card and building on it with brighter illustrations or graphic floral elements.
Outdoor Wedding Ideas for An Incredible and Colourful Wedding
If you’re leading your wedding theme with one main colour and committing to it fully, it can be a little overwhelming if you’re in an enclosed wedding venue. That’s why having an outdoor wedding is the perfect way to keep your Incredible and Colourful Wedding looking balanced and aesthetically pleasing.
You can use the grounds of an existing wedding venue, a field or a beach – anything you like, as long as it has some vibrant, natural elements that keep your brightly coloured theme grounded. With an outdoor wedding, you can also make use of coloured smoke flares for some stunning wedding photography as shown in this photo shoot. It’s a definite show stopper!
Come in Colors: an Incredibly Colorful Inspiration Shoot
I feel like such a lucky lady today to get to share this incredible Come in Colours editorial with you from Lara Hotz Photography (yes! Lara Hotz of Bird of Paradise fame). Originally shot for the third issue of Australia’s Hello May Magazine, it is overflowing with creativity and of course – colour!
The first portion of this shoot includes Kelsey Genna’s Buttercup wedding dress, a horse with pink hair, one of the most amazing takes on a flower crown yet, and a unique poppy-stuffed-shirt-pocket boutonnière.
A blush wedding dress plus pink hair topped off with a polka dot veil makes for some seriously fun and offbeat bridal looks in the next part of this colourful wedding inspiration shoot.
The upcoming looks are my absolute favourites. The red veil makes a definite statement piece and the way the bridal bouquet design draws inspiration from the chic floral print gown (via Lover) is pure genius.
The play between a more traditional white wedding dress and quirky styling elements in the final part of this inspiration is so unique. Plus, you get to love a florist who goes the extra mile – be sure to watch the video at the end glimpses of Esther (The Sisters) creating magic with an orange smoke flare!
If you’re in Australia, be sure to grab an issue of Hello May Magazine to see more images from this brilliant inspiration shoot and no matter where you are, check out another fantastic and colourful editorial from Lara Hotz here!
