Create an Infrared Effect in Photoshop Using a Chanel Mixer
In infrared photography, either the film or the camera sensor can read infrared light, a part of the light spectrum that the human eye can't see. This creates photos that have a very distinct, surreal, look. As you most likely don't have the equipment around for true infrared photography, you can simulate a black and white infrared effect with the help of a channel mixer adjustment in Adobe Photoshop.
Before / After:
1- Channel mixer adjustment:
- Create a Channel Mixer adjustment layer.
- From the Preset dropdown, select Black & White Infrared (RGB).
- Leave the Green value as it is (200%) as this creates most of the effect, but play around with the Red and Blue channels to get something that looks good.
- Here I set the Blue channel to -7% and the Red channel to -50%.
That’s it! That’s the only step needed for this particular case.
