The main house was originally built in 1945 and an addition and the casita were added later.

The nearest Gulf of Mexico beaches are on Lido Key, Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. The nearest Sarasota Bay beach is at Indian Beach Park, just a 10 minute walk from the Casita.
