Toll House

The home was designed by architect Charles E. Shattuck (who also designed the Boyle Heights bungalow that was home to cosmetics maven Max Factor during the 1920s). Its many lovely features include beamed ceilings, built-in shelving, crown moldings, and a floor to ceiling Batchelder tile fireplace in the living room. Known as the Toll House (no, not that Toll House), the home was built for banker Charles Toll and his wife, Elanor, an educator. It later became one of the first properties to be designated as a historic resource by the city of Glendale in 1977. The gated property park like grounds measures 1 acre and includes a long double circular driveway with plenty of parking, and three-car garage attached workshop. Adjacent to the main residence is an 850-square-foot 1 bed/1 bath guest house, another 800 – square-foot guest house which is being used as storage. Behind the properties home sets a fully remodeled outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, with a wood burning fireplace. The patio has plenty of room for seating and entertaining. It overlooks a pool surrounded by grassy areas and fruit trees. At 6,714 square feet, the residence spacious home, with a library, formal living room with a ceiling to wall Batchelder tile fireplace, formal dining room big enough for 20 guests, 400 square-foot newly remodeled kitchen, a separate kitchen nook/room, it has also a private suite with its own bedroom -living area and bathroom. Downstairs is the man cave with a fireplace and sitting area opened to an equipped game room. 3rd floor are the bedrooms. The roomy master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with marble flooring and a clawfoot tub, attached office. Bedroom 2 has its own living area with a balcony and converted a bedroom to a walk-in closet. Also 1 more guest bedroom. Other highlights include original hardwood floors, crown molding, wood-paneled walls, French doors throughout the house, and a very nice leaded glass window above the wide master stairwell, old school phones as intercom for the house.
