Our home is VERY special.
French country style 100 y/o stone and stucco/steel-roof dwelling that was impeccably expanded/renovated. It blends all the charm and personality of an 'antique' with updated amenities. Set on 5 acres of mostly open rolling grassy hills and flat lawn areas in Alexandria Twp, NJ (Hunterdon Co.), we are 3/10 of a mile off the main road, down a dirt lane. We offer TONS of privacy: there's a campground on one side and a horse farm on the other. 3 other houses on the lane, each with lots of acreage.
Specimen/ornamental trees as well as local ash and pine are sprinkled around the property. Beautiful perennial flowers keep spring and summer colorful. We are in the process of building a raised vegetable garden w/a tree limb fence. A greenhouse is going up in the spring also.
Grapevine/wisteria covered trellis on patio provides beauty and shade. We have a very large, gorgeous koi pond that's fed by one of 3 streams on our property.
But perhaps the most unique feature about the exterior is the caboose. Yes, WE HAVE A RED CABOOSE ON OUR PROPERTY! It's finished with sheetrock and wood floors and has HVAC + electric.
We also have a 2-car detached garage w/a Sub Zero refrigerator inside, and a shed. Both are the same color/style as the house.
On the 1st floor of the house, we have a kitchen/great room the centerpiece of which is a massive, clear story free-standing stone fireplace w/mantle. The kitchen cabinets were custom made, the countertops are Pennsylvania blue slate, SS appliances. There's a 10' long settee in front of a wall of windows that looks out on the pond and 2 sets of 9' french doors leading to the patio.
There's also a laundry room w/custom cabinetry, TV room w/fireplace, a full bath, sun room, bedroom (currently used as a studio) and the original kitchen from the 100 y/o part of the house. Adjacent to the studio, it's currently used as additional studio space. Cherry floors throughout most of the 1st floor and all of 2nd.
2nd floor: burnished, black steel handrail all the way up & across the hallway which is open to the great room below. 3BRs up all have cathedral ceilings.1 BR has stunning views of the pond. One is used as an office/guest room. MBR has french doors leading to a balcony overlooking the backyard, 3 streams, part of the horse farm, lots of woods and part of the campground.
Upstairs bathroom has a unique 'step-up' feature with mosaic tile floor, huge shower, antique free-standing sink and built-in linen closet/medicine cabinet w/glass doors reminiscent of the early 20th C. A wall of windows offers beautiful views of pond, streams and caboose while getting ready for work in the morning.
I am an artist and my fiancé is a landscaper and outdoorsman, so our home is an eclectic mix of my work, pieces he's collected over the years, antiques, newer pieces and whatever else catches our fancy.
We also have a backtop 'pad' in the yard that can hold an event tent. Our home was used for an intimate wedding last fall for about 50 people. See photos. It was a wonderful event!
The pictures will do more justice to our home than anything I write here. I look forward to answering any questions you may have.
