Constructed in 1933, the Spanish Revival style New Armory was built to fit the needs of the 3rd Brigade, 40th Infantry division of the California National Guard during the Great Depression. As one of the original armories owned by the state of California, The New Armory was constructed when reports were released stating that San Jose was one of five Bay Area cities in desperate need for an armory.
