The Albert Butler House, 1964, is the exemplar of high MCM style. Built by Addison Mizner protégé Byron Simonson (the Colony Hotel and defunct Rockefeller La Coquille Club). 7,500 sq ft of incredible detail: soaring indoor/outdoor granite and quartz walls, ceilings in excess of 25 feet, many glass walls, carved teak double entry doors, inverted ship’s prow cypress ceiling and beams with quatrefoil skylights, coromandel screen fireplace surround, elevated cocktail room, crotched mahogany walls, Tiffany blue room with custom starburst chandelier with matching bulbs, concave ceiling, site hand poured plaster detail, indoor/outdoor contiguous bluestone floor, diagonal wood hand pegged floor, carved doors, stairwells and wet bar, kitchen in turquoise and malachite with harlequin floor and colored appliances.
