About Birmingham

Situated in the West Midlands, Birmingham is the second-largest city in the UK. Known for its rock music scene, extensive canal networks covering 35 miles, and, for television fans, Peaky Blinders, Birmingham is a cultural hub of activity. But, did you know that Birmingham is also one of the youngest cities in Europe? Forty percent of its residents are below the age of 25.

So if you’re looking for a wedding reception venue in Birmingham, you won’t be disappointed. The city is home to dozens of suitable venues; we have no doubt that you’ll find a venue to suit your wedding theme! To help you with your research, we’ve created this handy guide to planning an epic wedding reception in bustling Birmingham.

Reception Options in Birmingham

Planning a wedding reception is a challenge. There’s a lot to consider: the outfits, theme, entertainment, photography, food, drink and much more. Arguably the most crucial part of your wedding reception is the disco. Of course, you’ll want to capture all of the fun moments of your reception. This is where an experienced photographer comes in handy. Below, we’ll elaborate on why these two aspects of your wedding reception are so important.

  • DJ
The best way to get your guests on the dance floor is with a top-notch DJ. A good DJ is charismatic, responsive to requests and creates a fun atmosphere that all guests will enjoy. Most DJs will also bring all the necessary electronic equipment and lights to ensure the dance floor looks the part!
  • Wedding Reception Photographer
You want to remember every detail of your wedding day, of course! That is a big ask, but a photographer can help preserve memories forever. An experienced wedding photographer will capture the fun and the magic of your reception without disturbing guests as they’re having a great time. You won't have to worry about blurred or unflattering photos on your special day. In our opinion, a good wedding photographer pays for themself in the form of fantastic photos.

Pros and Cons of Receptions in Birmingham

Advantages

  • Green spaces
Birmingham offers plenty of green space. Did you know that the city has more open public space than any city of the same size in Europe? Birmingham has almost 600 parks totalling around 3,500 hectares! If you're planning to visit and take photos in any of the city's green spaces after your reception, Birmingham will offer you just that!
  • Chocolate lover's paradise
If you’re a chocolate lover, you’ll want to spend some time in Birmingham. The city is the home of Cadbury World, which was founded in 1824 in a shop on Bull Street. Situated in Bournville, south of Birmingham city centre, Cadbury World is a popular attraction for adults and children alike. If you're thinking of throwing a chocolate-themed reception, you're in the right place!
  • Plenty of venue options
Birmingham is the UK’s second-largest city, attracting over 40 million visitors each year. As a result, plenty of wedding reception venues are available to hire. However, demand will be high, so book as early as you possibly can!

Disadvantages

  • Traffic
Birmingham is known for being a city with a traffic problem. However, don’t let that stop you from hiring a reception venue in the city. City officials have recently announced a “transformative” plan to change the city from car-centric to a low-traffic neighbourhood.
  • Run-down areas
Like every city, Birmingham has run-down areas with the highest crime rates in the city. The most run-down neighbourhoods include Sparkbrook, Handsworth, Small Heath and Bordesley Green. If your guests are leaving your reception after dark, it's best that they don't go out all alone.
  • Tourists
Birmingham is a popular city for tourists from across the globe. As a result, the city centre can feel crowded at peak times. So if you’re not a big fan of crowds and you want to avoid delays while going to the reception venue, travel ahead of time.
