About Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico and is situated in the region known as the high desert. The city itself is essentially two separate cities conjoined together. The downtown area is an urban city with modern shops, buildings, commerce, and business. Old Town Albuquerque is part of what was originally a Spanish settlement found in 1702. The Old Town area is filled with historic buildings, shops, and museums dedicated to the city’s Native American heritage.

Though not the state capital, Albuquerque plays a central role in commerce and politics for New Mexico, meaning there’s a ton of opportunity. The city’s position in the Rio Grande Valley makes for lots of places to explore outdoors for those that enjoy nature, hiking, and other activities. The city also has all the modern amenities but pays homage to its Spanish and Native American cultural elements.

The weather in Albuquerque is somewhat dry with mild temps throughout half the year and cold winters with hot summers. This makes the overall climate very mild in comparison to hotter desert climates in neighboring states. The mild season climate means plenty of days to explore the city once you’re done putting together that filming project, planning that wedding reception, board meeting, or some other event.

Attractions in Albuquerque

With a city this rich in history and culture there is bound to be lots to do when you have some downtime. You can find high-class food, entertaining nightlife, museums, theaters, and a range of fun and educational venues and attractions that are worth exploring alone or with the whole family.

  • Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
Albuquerque is a city that has a ton of cultural history that dates back well before the founding of America. If you're interested in discovering more about the Native American and Spanish heritage of the city when you're on a break from filming, wedding planning, or whatever other events you've got in the works consider visiting the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. With regular events, art exhibits, and other options, there's something for everyone.

  • National Museum of Nuclear Science and History
Are you interested in something educational that is a little different from the norm? Then perhaps the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is more up your alley. This museum showcases all sorts of science around the origin of the atomic bomb and nuclear power. With science camps for kids, regular rotating exhibits, and even stuff for teachers and homeschooling, there's something to be learned by even the brightest among us.

  • ABQ Biopark Botanic Garden
For a more relaxed experience that lets you get lost in nature, the ABQ Biopark Botanic Garden is a great spot for those that love the outdoors with over a mile and a half of trails winding through both natural and cultivated gardens. There are tons of plants and fauna to see as well. There's even a summer camp option for kids that want to explore nature and learn something at the same time.

  • La Luz Trail
For those that are more adventurous, the La Luz trail could be what you are seeking. This roughly nine-mile trail hikes up the Sandias Mountains and ends at the highest point in the region, allowing for stunning views of Albuquerque. It's important to note that this trail isn't for the faint of heart, but if you're feeling adventurous and love a good hike, then this is the perfect spot to visit. Once you're done with all of your event planning and corporate meeting business, that is.

  • New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Society
This nonprofit organization offers guided tours of a work in progress as well as the restoration of a 19th-century locomotive that ran until the early 1950s through New Mexico. Even if you're not a train fanatic yourself, getting to watch a literal steam engine get restored is something not many can claim to have seen in person. What's more, during your guided tour, you can learn about the history of the locomotive and the route that it ran while it was in service.

Production Locations in Albuquerque

When you’re filming, the people you’re filming are important but so is the setting. The location you film in sets the mood and the tone for whatever you’re trying to produce. Interviews should have their ideal location, each movie scene needs a proper backdrop, musical performances deserve a proper stage, and finding the right one can be frustrating. Thankfully, in a city like Albuquerque, you can find a little bit of everything to suit your needs and that includes an ideal location for production.

  • Aircraft Hangar
Whether you're looking to film the next Top Gun movie or just need a ton of open space for whatever production you're putting together, you can find a full aircraft hangar available as your next production location. It offers plenty of wide-open space, and there are actual aircraft that can also be rented as set pieces to go along with the location.

  • Modern Homes
If you are looking for something a bit quainter and cozier then perhaps renting out one of the many modern homes that are available in Albuquerque is more up your alley. Any one of the many homes available would make an excellent backdrop for a production such as a podcast interview or any other small, intimate setting.

  • The Great Outdoors
Since Albuquerque has such a great climate with many different backgrounds from desert to lush green forests, why not shoot outside? Your production space in Albuquerque can range from the bustling city to remote woodlands, and with over 300 days of sunshine on average, the weather will almost certainly cooperate. Some of the films shot here include Logan, Maze Runner, and Zookeeper.
